External Catheters, or "Condom Catheters," are worn like a condom for men and a pouch for women, and contain a drainage bag that's strapped to the leg to collect urine. Since they're worn outside the body, these catheters aid in lowering the risk of damage to the urethra caused by the insertion of common urethral catheters.

There are several ways to affix a male or female External Catheter, and each of type has various sizes from which to choose. Always remember to keep your hands and all areas clean before and after use - to avoid infection caused by bacteria from improper use. Although External Catheters protect the skin, it's still important to keep all areas clean.

Keep in mind that Self-Catheterization should only be carried out under your Doctor's advice. It's good to learn about proper External Catheter use and care, and you should always follow your Doctor's instructions on "Plan of Care" and "Frequency of Use" when using catheter and urological supplies.

You can rely on Medical Direct Club for your External Catheter supplies.
